Evergreen's Heavy-Lift Helicopter to Transport and Place Hometown Christmas Tree

McMinnville, OR—November 17, 2005—Evergreen Helicopters' Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane helicopter will take a break from its usual operations to provide a lift for a bit of hometown holiday cheer this Saturday, November 19. Evergreen's Skycrane, which is capable of lifting 20 tons and has been used in major work around the globe including the Sears Tower in Chicago and the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit, will lift an approximately 9,000-pound, 50-foot Christmas tree from the property of donors William and Rosemari Davis to McMinnville's City Park, 140 Park Drive. The flight will begin at approximately 7:45 a.m., with the tree arriving at the park between 7:55 and 8:05 a.m.

Evergreen pilots Mike Rarity and Francisco Orlaineta will fly the aircraft, which will take off from Evergreen headquarters in McMinnville. The Skycrane will move to the Davis property, where a ground crew will attach the tree with a sling beneath the helicopter. The flight path will follow Cozine Creek to the park, where another ground crew will guide the placement of the tree.

Evergreen is donating the operation at cost, including pilots and ground crews. This is the third year that the company has provided this service to the city of McMinnville, though the Skycrane is the most powerful of Evergreen's aircraft to complete the job.

"It's an honor to take part in this tradition for our hometown." said Evergreen Helicopters President David Rath. "It's a nice way to close a very busy year."

This year, Evergreen has been involved in such worldwide missions as hurricane relief, firefighting, disaster relief, and vertical services for the U.S. Navy.
